A Brookshire Resident Who Kept Pushing Through
Trevor's story begins with symptoms he rationalized away during his daily commute.
Trevor had lived west of Houston for years, working long days that often took him east along I-10. The drive home to Brookshire became a familiar rhythm—windows down, radio on, mind wandering.
But over the past several months, something else became familiar: a burning sensation in his chest after meals, occasional nausea that seemed to come out of nowhere, and a vague discomfort when swallowing certain foods.
He told himself it was stress. Maybe too much coffee. Maybe eating too fast during lunch breaks. He'd felt reflux before—everyone had—so he didn't think much of it.
Until the symptoms stopped being occasional and started being constant.
I kept thinking it would just go away on its own. I didn't want to make a big deal out of something that might be nothing.
